If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a coworking space, then The Bakery is a great example of that. Tons of different businesses using the same building to imagine, grow, and network their future. If you are familiar with a coworking space, then this could be considered Coworking 2.0. Take out all of the rent-a-desk non-sense, and sprinkle some more collaboration and community.
No. Unfortunately neither building on the property is setup to do that. We have had tons of interest in setting one up. The best option would be the steal building out back. If someone wanted to pay for sprinklers and more parking spots then we could do it. The maker community is here and we love them.
At any given time there could be a class going on in one of the classrooms. We can’t even imagine all of the type of subjects that will be taught in there. Some of the sponsors also have asked for the opportunity to host classes for members. If you love to teach please reach out and let us know what class you could teach.
We think traditional office workers will find The Bakery to be a re-energizing space where they can bring their laptop and get their work done remotely. They could also use it to meet clients. Plus we all know work often happens outside of 8-5. The Bakery will be open 24/7.
No. That would be totally rad though. Got one? We know there are a few hiding around Sioux Falls. If this is something people wanted access to we could certainly find a sponsor to help with the investment.
We hope that musicians re fall in love with the space. Throughout the 90s the building was rentable practice space. We would love to see jam nights or music break out from time to time. We will also have private concerts for members. If you are a musician reach out to us and share your idea.
None of us enjoy a gym that every machine is full. We know that there will be times when The Bakery is packed and other times it will be empty. We will have to let it naturally level out and then see if we should limit membership. Many decisions like this will happen at community potlucks.
The Bakery is really for those people in the community who have a craft or skillset that they think betters themselves and the community. This could be a teacher who serves in a school all day but wants to stay plugged into the community at large in the evenings. It could be a local mechanic who stops by once a week do to books and maybe hand someone a business card. It could be an artist who hopes to find a mentor to friend in the arts.
Yes. We would ask though that one person uses it and it doesn’t get passed around. Other members will want to know who is a member and who isn’t.
Does a bear poop in the woods? Sure. Call us and let’s make a deal.
If you are an innovator or early adopter then you want to join to say you were there when… If doing anything before you have proof that 100 sensible people have done it first and not died scares you, then check us out after we have opened.
Awesome members. We have graphic designers, web developers, social media specialists, business strategists, engineers, software developers, musicians, IT specialists, copywriters, bankers, investors, and you hopefully.
One of our Founders, Clint Brown, was a very successful BNI Area Director. BNI has built its world around a super structured weekly time to pass referrals and train others how to pass referrals to you. It is 90 minutes once a week. The Bakery assumes that the community has an ongoing and distinct need to connect at many various times and ways through the course of the week. They also need a place to do it.
We were advised by the largest coworking spaces in the U.S. to NOT mix the two. The space is beautiful and we could probably run a very successful rental event space out of it. We, however, want to protect the space for the members and their needs. We will have many events throughout the year but they will be member only events.
Well we can’t say for certain what we may do in the future but we can tell you what our members have already done. Potlucks, Speed Networking, Food Truck Fridays, lunch and learns, classes, art galas, mixers, movie nights, kickball tournaments, juggling meetups, mommy meetups, book clubs, bible studies, beer tastings, documentary screenings, civic meetups, community activism meetups, etc.
Community, collaboration, energy, connections, and countless other “soft” benefits. Plus maybe you have a day where you need to work standing up, laying down, curled up on a couch, barefoot, drinking a beer or any number of other things that might be awkward in your cubicle but acceptable at The Bakery. The real reason that folks STAY at The Bakery is the community. Once you get plugged in to an experience like this you don’t want go without it. That is by design. A healthy community should be some place you want to come to.
Did you know creativity is exponentially higher as the population increases? Why is this? Because creativity is most often spurned by serendipitous exposure to other creatives. In a big city your chances of crossing paths with creativity are huge. We hope to increase those for Sioux Falls in a predictable way. There are many creatives in our community. There are folks that solves health problems and paint pictures and make music and write laws. All of these folks creatively tackle the world in front of them. Maybe your team needs inspiration from time to time. Maybe being around other creatives will inspire them to solve problems in new ways.
