The Bakery all started with a crazy little idea to create an environment to unite the thinkers, doers, and creators of our community. An environment to foster relationships between those who have skills to teach and those who want to learn. An 8250 square foot building where people can come together to learn, support, and inspire one another.
What If?
What if both businesses and education alike finally admitted that the assembly lines and mass production introduced to America during the Industrial Revolution, are a thing of the past? That we no longer have the need to run kids through a factory-like system to mass produce a like-minded workforce. What if we admitted that mass customization was in full force today? What if we admitted that the desire to learn is stronger than ever, but that collaboration was the method, and not curriculums? What if we recaptured the pioneering spirit and bushwhacked our way into a new age of businesses and education? Learning used to be the mechanism necessary to make a living. What if we brought that ideology back?
We See.
We see a place where eager minds are engaged in the journey of the learning process. Where brilliant minds, on the brink of a breakthrough, realize they forgot to eat lunch because they were so inspired by their work, food never crossed their minds. Where collaboration is the oxygen, and ideas the fuel that makes the engine fire. We see a space where those with mastery looking over the shoulder and providing guidance to those seeking proficiency.
We Believe.
Everyone at their core has a common belief, maybe not in an inexpressible state, but shared, nonetheless. We believe that learning is lifelong and that the goal is not just proficiency, and not just competency, but mastery. We believe that if you know it, you should teach it. We believe that business is desperate for talent and talent is desperate for opportunity. We believe that making money and helping others make money is a skill that must be learned, honed, and shared. We believe that there is a generation of fierce minds that know more schooling isn’t the only path to their future, but rather they seek apprenticeship and mentorship from masters. We believe in failing fast and failing forward.
One of the best parts about working in The Bakery is working in a space with with a rich history. You can see the history in the walls, ceilings, and windows. The more we dig, the more neat stories we uncover about this building's history. We are working on compiling a timeline about the The Bakery, stay tuned for updates!
